Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb are at the drawing board trying to figure out what approach Alabama football will take in their run game to open the 2025 season after temporarily losing senior tailback Jam Miller to an upper-body injury in the Crimson Tide’s latest scrimmage of fall camp.

Alabama football's Kalen DeBoer was asked about the NCAA punishing Michigan for its sign-stealing scandal, after he faced the Wolverines with Washington in the 2023 national championship game.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb had hinted throughout the offseason that Simpson was leading the race. Their belief was reinforced after the first preseason scrimmage, where Simpson’s control of the offense and poise under pressure stood out compared to the other candidates.

Ty Simpson was originally a Nick Saban recruit, but he will start at quarterback for Kalen DeBoer with Alabama football in 2025.
