U.S. President Donald Trump hosts South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Washington for their first summit meeting on Monday, after the countries struck a trade deal last month lowering U.S. tariffs on the Asian ally to 15% from a threatened 25%.

South Korea’s new president, Lee Jae-myung, hopes his country’s shipbuilding expertise can help revitalize the industry and stave off further Trump tariffs.

At a summit meeting in Washington, D.C. on Monday, the U.S. and South Korean presidents will discuss modernizing their 71-year-old alliance and fleshing out a trade deal reached last month.
