The Boston Red Sox are expected to make a decision on pitcher Tanner Houck soon, as he continues to struggle early on in the 2025 season.
Detroit dominated Game 1 of this series yesterday with a 14-2 victory. The Tigers had 18 hits to the Red Sox’s six with each team hitting two homers. Detroit is 6-2 in the last eight games, but 1-2 over the past three. Boston is 4-2 in the previous six games and 4-5 over the last nine.
After being limited to six total runs over the weekend, they sent 14 hitters to the plate and scored nine times in the third inning and didn’t stop, putting the Red Sox to rout, 14-2 before a fired-up crowd of 20,136 at Comerica Park.
Most notably, the team lost first baseman Triston Casas to a season-ending knee injury and franchise slugger Rafael Devers has publicly refused to play as his substitute. But after Monday's loss, the Red Sox are now considering another drastic move for one of their most accomplished players.
Tanner Houck has an 8.04 ERA through nine starts this year, and with rotation decisions looming, the Red Sox might need to pivot.
