Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan for using three seconds of footage from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in their Netflix docu-drama Nayanthara: Beyond Fairytale. Nayanthara’s lawyer responded,

Dhanush said, "The third respondent was aware that she must not use any visuals or video of the film, off or on-screen without consent of the applicant. She intentionally chose to infringe upon the applicant's copyrights causing an irreparable loss to the applicant's company.

Following the open letter and controversy surrounding the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, actor Dhanush has finally launched a civil lawsuit against the actress and her husband Vignesh Shivan.

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, produced by Wunderbar Movies, featured Nayanthara. Dhanush claims that the documentary used the movie's footage without his prior consent.
