East Providence schools will have heightened police presence, Mayor Bob DaSilva announced Sunday night. The announcement came after authorities in Providence announced that the person-of-interest connected with the Brown University shooting was being released. In a post on social media, the mayor said that the move was “in an abundance of caution.”

With the Brown University shooter still at large, several schools in Providence have canceled school on Monday, Dec. 15.
There are reports of multiple people shot. As of 4:30 PM on Saturday, a large law enforcement presence has been established by Brook and Thayer Streets; law enforcement officials could be seen entering a Brown University building. Multiple rescues are at the location.
