Angel Martínez had an RBI single during Cleveland’s four-run first and made a key defensive play in the second inning as the Guardians held on for a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

Tanner Bibee now holds a place in the annals of Cleveland baseball history he would prefer to not occupy, all because the Guardians were out of challenges in a critical part of their game with the Red Sox on the final day of May.

President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti provided an update on the injury and what the MRI revealed, and, all things considered, the Guardians executive gave some pretty good news on Martinez’s status. “The MRI showed a mild mid foot strain,” explained Antonetti. “It's relatively good news, so he'll just be day to day.”

Tim Herrin's disastrous outing for the Guardians on Sunday is another example of how much he's struggled in the past couple weeks.

The Cleveland Guardians weren't sure what they were going to get from Cade Smith once Emmanuel Clase was lost, but he has settled in nicely and now leads baseball in saves this season. Smith has settled in nicely as the team's go-to late-game arm.
