Google’s QR code generator is limited to encoding URLs only. If you have other marketing needs such as encoding contact information, or using the QR Code as a dialer, you will have to go elsewhere.

Google has quietly stopped offering QR codes for businesses with Places pages. Google had been offering a QR code to businesses that when scanned opened that business’ Google Places page.

The QR code sharing tool is still in development and not publicly available yet, but we managed to get it up and running in version 7.26 of the Google Photos app.

Google also added a “Download” button to the QR code interface which means Chrome users could have a very handy new way to generate QR codes for purposes other than direct sharing.
