Israel’s military will mobilize thousands of reservists in the coming days, it said Saturday, in what appears to be an expansion of its offensive in Gaza as talks aimed at securing a ceasefire languish.

The war began after Hamas led a surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and saw 250 taken back to Gaza as hostages. In the aftermath, Israeli leaders vowed to destroy Hamas in Gaza and free all of the captives held there.

The Israeli military has issued call-up notices for thousands of reservists to expand its offensive in Gaza, reports Reuters. The reservists will be deployed along Israel's border with Lebanon and on the occupied West Bank.
