Iga Swiatek, the women’s world No. 2 tennis player, has received a one-month doping ban after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ).

The International Tennis Integrity Agency says five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has accepted a one-month suspension after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine.

The results for unspecified substances resulted in a mandatory provisional suspension, imposed on September 12th. This resulted in the Pole having to miss the WTA 500 in Korea (September 16-22), the WTA 1000 in Beijing (September 25-October 6) and the WTA 1000 in Wuhan (October 7-13).

Meanwhile, Swiatek was found to have been “at the lowest end of the range for no significant fault or negligence” after the 23-year-old Polish player explained that her doping violation was caused by a contaminated supply of the non-prescription medication melatonin, which she uses to help with jet lag and sleep issues.

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek enjoyed a trophy-laden 2024 but rather than ending the year basking in glory, they were instead fighting for their reputations after receiving only minor reprimands for failing dope tests.
