A Bulter County native who was imprisoned in Russia for more than three years is back in the Pittsburgh area. Officials confirm Marc Fogel landed at Pittsburgh International Airport late Tuesday afternoon. Fogel’s family also confirmed he’s back in Pittsburgh, saying that he’s happy to be back and is adjusting.

Pennsylvania teacher Marc Fogel, who was sentenced to 14 years in a Russian prison after being arrested with what he claimed was legally prescribed marijuana, has been freed and is heading back to the United States, the White House announced Tuesday.

In 2021, a teacher from Western Pennsylvania was arrested in Russia and had been detained in a prison ever since.

The Oakmont man was arrested for carrying a half ounce of medical marijuana and sentenced to 14 years in a penal colony.

Marc Fogel was detained at a Moscow airport in August 2021 for possession of marijauna that he had been prescribed for back pain.
