The Vikings didn't give Sam Darnold a franchise tag. The team is interested however in giving him a short term extension.

After weighing all of their options, the Vikings did not place the franchise tag on Darnold ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to do so. As a result, Darnold, who turns 28 years old in a few months, has the ability to sign elsewhere when free agency opens next week.

Dallas signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa before the franchise tag deadline Tuesday and Minnesota declined to give the tag to quarterback Sam Darnold, clearing the way for him to hit the open market next week.
