MADRID–Three-time champion Novak Djokovic may have played at the Madrid Open for the last time after crashing out in the second round to Italian Matteo Arnaldi on Saturday, with the Serbian admitting he did not know if he would return.

On Saturday, the 4-seed Djokovic took on unseeded Matteo Arnaldi in their first-ever meeting. Arnaldi defeated Djokovic in straight sets during their second-round match at the Madrid Open: 6-3, 6-4.

Novak Djokovic’s miserable start to the clay-court season continued with a second-round defeat to world No. 44 Matteo Arnaldi at the Madrid Open, in what he described as his “new reality” on the ATP Tour.
