Harvard University sued President Donald Trump's administration on Monday in an effort to halt the government's pause of more than $2 billion in funding for the U.S. educational institution.

Harvard’s lawsuit comes after the administration sought to force the university to comply with a list of demands by cutting billions in federal funding the school receives.

The lawsuit sets up a legal showdown between America’s most prominent university and the president of the United States, who has been on an escalating campaign to reorder elite higher education.
