Oklahoma City Republican Jon Echols served in the House of Representatives for 12 years. Then he had to retire. Last fall, term limits forced Echols out of his post as majority floor leader, a leadership gig he held for the last eight of those 12 years.

A Georgia sheriff's deputy won't face criminal charges for fatally shooting a Black man during a 2023 traffic stop that spiraled into a violent struggle, the district attorney who examined body-camera video and other evidence in the killing said Tuesday.

Echols was House Majority Floor Leader for eight years, making him the longest-serving Majority Floor Leader in Oklahoma history.
