Brewster F2A Buffalo - Wikipedia
The Brewster F2A Buffalo [1] is an American fighter aircraft which saw service early in World War II. Designed and built by the Brewster Aeronautical Corporation, it was one of the first U.S. monoplanes with an arrestor hook and other modifications for aircraft carriers.

On June 22, 1936, the US Navy ordered a prototype of the Model B-139 from Brewster which was designated the F2A, assigning the fledgling company the letter A, which had previously denoted General Aviation (ex Atlantic). Brewster's new airplane was an all-metal cantilever mid-wing monoplane with a stubby fuselage and fabric-covered flight controls.
