Apr 13, 2023 · The Liberal Party is similar to the centre to centre-left part of the Democratic Party. In other words, probably the biggest block of that party. For example, Obama would have fit in quite well with the Liberal Party of Canada. At the same time, someone like Biden would probably fit in more so with the old Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.

Oct 11, 2023 · Right now, Canada's Conservative Party is very right-wing in policy. The Conservative governments that have done well in Canada governed closer to the center. Canadians tend to be moderates, tolerant, and relatively progressive.

A Canadian family has to take a back seat to some college kid wanting to take some courses in Canada. This is the situation I am in, waiting now 4 months for a simple tourist visa to take our Honeymoon in Canada, introduce my wife to friends and my 92 year old mom, take care of formalities like a religious ceremony and amend some legal papers.

Economically center-right, socially center. A very centrist party - non ideological, they basically just do whatever they figure most people want them to do. The default ruling party of Canada for many years and they act the part. The NDP is a social democratic party, i.e. an actual left wing party, worker and social program oriented, etc.

From April 8-10, 2021, Liberal members from across Canada will be participating in their party's convention. It will be an entirely virtual convention. Please keep all discussion on the Liberal convention here, and ensure that you are following all subreddit rules.

May 6, 2024 · This could make it so more interesting activist factions of the party start battling it out for primacy within the party. They may not get the leadership position but the policy and perspectives of the party may be interestingly developed. Personally I think Mark Carney is going to be the leader of the party next.

All of this has meant that the Liberal Party is the establishment party in Canada - and they act like it. When you look at corruption scandals throughout Canadian history, a disproportionate number of them have happened during Liberal governments (the Conservatives have had their own certainly, just not as many).

We are a big tent party. Our membership will range between the broad center, whether center-left or center-right. Feel free to debate your differences, but unless if someone is avidly trying to undermine the core tenets of liberal democracy, don't accuse them of not belonging here.
