As an enlightened being, the Buddha could understand the thoughts of all beings. He followed the dog to a poor home where an old man lay bedridden, sick and in despair. The Buddha felt great compassion and used divine power to heal the man instantly. The old man, deeply moved, knelt in gratitude and asked to take refuge in the Triple Gem.
