Heavy downpour and hail caused flooding in the Turkish capital of Ankara Sunday (May 20), leaving dozens of passengers stranded in vehicles. Main roads were submerged under water in the Mamak district and dozens of cars were dragged by the flash floods, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. Residents stranded in cars in an underpass waited for rescue teams to arrive, as firefighters rescued passengers from a flooded bus. As record floods swallowed large parts of Sydney earlier this year, the NSW Police Aviation Command was tasked with helping to search for and rescue those stranded. In the space of only two hours on March 23, 2021, the crew of PolAir 5 rescued 15 people trapped by the floods, in one the busiest days for the Command this year.
