Jan. 17, 1893 is a day commemorated each year in a march from Maunaʻala, the royal mausoleum, to ʻIolani Palace. Marchers honor Hawaiʻi's last monarch, Queen Liliʻuokalani and rally to uplift ongoing efforts toward ea (sovereignty), a continuation of cultural practices, language and Hawaiian values and ways.
